How to Create a Homeschool Transcript

Connie Slone · July 2, 2026

A homeschool transcript is one of the most important documents you’ll create for your high schooler. Done well, it opens doors to college, scholarships, and dual enrollment. Here’s how to build one that holds up.

What every transcript needs

  • Student name and graduation date
  • Your school name (your homeschool is a school)
  • Every course, by year, with credit and grade
  • A calculated GPA
  • A parent signature and date

Calculating GPA

Use a standard 4.0 scale. Multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, sum those, and divide by total credits. If your student takes honors or AP work, add the bonus for a weighted GPA and show both numbers.

Tip: keep grades updated throughout the year so transcript season is painless. A gradebook that auto-tracks saves hours.

Make it official

A clean, professional format matters more than fancy graphics. Include the essentials, keep it to one or two pages, and sign it.

Want to skip the spreadsheet? Homeschooler.app generates transcripts automatically from the grades you’ve already entered.
